The Southern Islands!! / Sunday, January 28, 2007

Din talk about the southern islands of Göteborg a lot. Well, its rather cool having the islands as a summer retreat. With minimal cars, the sea being your backyard! How cool can that be! Well, there seems to be a number of people going there.. Not sure for what reasons.. Picnic? Just to have a light cruise on the 1hour plus ride which costs the same as a tram ticket? Lol...

Saw the map? Its all those islands from Varg
ö to Vrängö... Cool right? Like having many Pulau Ubins, and it is much more accessible also...

They have a cafeteria on board some of the ferrys too!!

Ice Hockey!! / Friday, January 19, 2007

Yup, 1st Ice hockey match I have ever been to. Its just a few tram stops away to Scandinavium.. Förlunda Indians against Mälmo.. We won 5-3. YAY!!!! Din know Ice hockey is that exciting and the home crowd is just superb, with all the cheering and stuff!! Felt a bit sad for the away team though.. lol.. Every time a goal is scored, there will be mini fireworks at the home ground.. But if the away scored, only the siren goes off.. ha..

Front Entrance to Scandinavium

During 2nd Quarter break I think

End of the match 5-3 !!

Sweden 1st post / Thursday, January 11, 2007

Here in Goteborg after 1 week, finally the internet is up. Been hard to survive w/o internet for the past week.
Transit at Paris Airport was cool, however the security checks were very stringent though, I had to take off my shoes for them to check even.. -__-

Paris Airport

Anyway, the weather is cool, 5-8 deg.. Not snowing though, just raining everyday.... Well, its a nice, cool, clean place, just that everything is super expensive.....
A bus/tram trip costs around 3.5sgd, a normal lunch costs 11+sgd, yeah, u get the picture...
Really have no choice but to cook ourselves.

Fish market in Goteborg

But not all things are expensive though, if you catch some shops on 'REA' which means sale, its really cheap, even cheaper than singapore. Got a 25 dollars jeans from Topman, cheap right.. lol..
And there I was thinking everybody here speaks english.. Ya they do, but all instructions be it on groceries, phamplets, notices, everything is in swedish.. Yup, have to decipher how to cook spagetthi sauce by guessing the instructions on the box

It gets dark after 4pm so ya, when we were at the guesthouse before this, no internet, so no choice but to sleep early.. at around 9pm... o.0
So this whole 2 weeks we were just going to the city and stuff, took a ferry to the southern islands also, it costs the same as a bus ride so its like a cheap cruise.. lol. Funny thing is that the islands are rather deserted, its like a summer vacation home to them.. lol.. I saw someone bringing a Sony Bravia Plasma TV over there.. lol.. Its nice though, with only 8 million people in the whole country, it is so sparsely populated.. Not like Singapore.. Packed like sardine...

The apartment we are living in now is good!! With kitchen and all, and cheaper than normal 1 room hostels... lol.. Although its like 2 bus stops away from the school.. I think its good enough.. =) But its quite empty, the apartment has no pots/pans, cups, plates, etc.. So, wheres the best place to buy all of them?? Ikea of course.... Yeah, the Ikea here is in the outskirts, and is similar to those in Singapore actually.. The only difference is there is a checkout counter for you to checkout yourself!!I guess that wont happen in Singapore, you know what I mean...

Oh ya, the main main difference between Singapore and here is that you have to pay for your plastic bags. Yes, either bring your own bags to bag your items or you pay for their bags.. And their tax for the items are 25%!! So Singaporeans shouldnt complain.... =)
